Hungary beats Albania 1-0 in WCup qualifying
TIRANA, Albania: A blunder by Albania defender Armend Dallku helped Hungary beat Albania 1-0 Saturday in a World Cup qualifying match.Sandor Torghelle scored the lone goal in the 38th minute after Dallku gave away a loose ball in the area following a cross from midfielder Szabolcs Huszti.Hamdi Salihi and Besart Berisha missed chances for Albania, which has six points from six games and next plays at Denmark on Wednesday. Hungary preserved its second place in the group with 10 points from five games.
Spain beats Turkey 1-0 in Group 5
MADRID: Gerard Pique scored a second-half goal Saturday to lead Spain over Turkey 1-0 and give the European champions a six-point lead at the top of their World Cup qualifying group. Pique, a Barcelona defender who was making only his second international appearance was perfectly placed in the 61st minute to score from Sergio Ramos' mishit as Spain, which stretched its unbeaten run to 30 games, stayed perfect in Group 5 with 15 points. Bosnia-Herzegovina beat Belgium 4-2 earlier to move into second place with nine points, while Turkey is third with eight following its first loss in five qualifying games. The two teams meet again Wednesday in Istanbul.
Serbia beats Romania 3-2 in WCup qualifier
CONSTANTA, Romania: Milan Jovanovic and Branislav Ivanovic added to an own-goal Saturday in Serbia's 3-2 win over Romania in a World Cup qualifying match.Jovanovic gave the visiting team the lead in the 18th minute, shooting past Romania goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont from six meters (yards) after a shot from Milos Krasic hit the post. Dorel Stoica then made it 2-0 by heading in an own-goal from a corner in the 44th.Romania got back into the match in the 51st when striker Adrian Mutu passed to Ciprian Marica, who lobbed the ball over the head of Serbia goalkeeper Vladimir Stokavic.Ivanovic put in a corner in the 60th to make it 3-1, and Stoica headed in a free kick from Mutu in the 74th.Romania was playing without captain Cristi Chivu.The match was watched by Romanian President Traian Basescu and Serbian President Boris Tadic.
