History of the Manchester united football club.

Manchester United is the most successful Premier League club having won the title 10 times. It all began in 1993 when manager Sir Alex Ferguson ended a 26-year wait to lift the Premier League crown.
The signing of Eric Cantona for £1.2million from Leeds United proved a masterstroke as the Frenchman was instrumental in the title victory, along with the likes of Gary Pallister, Denis Irwin, Ryan Giggs and Paul Ince.
United retained the trophy in the following campaign and romped to further titles in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003. More silverware was added to the Red Devils' burgeoning trophy cabinet with FA Cup success in 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2004, plus League Cup victories in 1992 and 2006.
Perhaps the most memorable time in the club's history was the treble-winning season of 1999 when they added the European Champions League trophy to the league title and FA Cup.
Chelsea briefly broke their league dominance with title wins in 2005 and 2006. But in the 2006/07 season, the Red Devils roared back to regain the Barclays Premiership.
They went one better last season, enjoying their most successful campaign since winning the treble. They saw off the challenge of Chelsea and Arsenal to win an exciting Barclays Premier League title race and defeated the Blues on penalties in the Champions League final after a 1-1 draw between the two sides in Moscow.

Fa cup 2nd semi final

Manchester United 0-0 Everton
Everton won 4-2 on penalties

Everton had the blessing of a one-track mind as they persevered all the way through two hours of goalless football and a shoot-out to reach an FA cup final against Chelsea.

Tim Cahill sent the first kick high, but Phil Jagielka ended the contest by converting his team's fifth. In between, the substitute Dimitar Berbatov and the captain, Rio Ferdinand, failed for Sir Alex Ferguson's team as Tim Howard, the former United goalkeeper, saved.

The first half was so dreary that the gripping moments were those in which something interesting did not quite happen. The United goalkeeper, Ben Foster, for instance, dithered over clearing, but when he brushed the ball against Louis Saha it rolled back into his grasp. By the same token, Everton's centre-back Joleon Lescott put a cross uneasily close to his near post while conceding a corner.

Wembley was a place of listlessness then and perhaps, where Moyes's side were concerned, inhibitions. Before the interval they looked unsettled by the fact that their prospects were, in principle, better than United's. After all, they were much closer to a full-strength selection. There was little sign of conviction before Cahill called for a good save from Foster in the 54th minute and even then the attempt had been struck from distance.

United, all the same, did develop determination. With seven minutes to go, Welbeck again came in off the left to get himself inside the full-back Tony Hibbert before coming close with a bending drive that went slightly high.
Extra-time was inescapable. ¬Ferguson did at least try to force the issue. The 17-year-old striker Federico Macheda, having discovered in his third appearance what it is like not to hit the winner for the club, gave way to Dimitar Berbatov.
United loss that match on penalties.

Everton have final against Chelsea on May 30th.

Moments later Chelsea responded with a long-range effort from Michael Ballack smothered by Howard who dived low to his left to ensure the ball did not creep inside the post.Minutes later Lampard, playing his 50th game of the season, sent a 25-yard shot just over Howard's crossbar.Michael Essien tried to go one better than Lampard in the 19th minute but his effort was well off target.Chelsea were now dominating the match but Everton still had their moments. A lightning counter-attack from Chelsea in the 42nd minute almost brought reward for the home side.

Second half

Jo wasted a chance to pinch the points for Everton when he fired high and wide from 18-yards in the 73rd minute.Chelsea's Kalou did likewise at the opposite end when he headed a cross from Malouda over the bar from six yards.Everton goalkeeper Howard then saved superbly to deny Kalou in the 79th minute after Lampard's corner found him unmarked. Introduction about the FA cup

The competition is a knockout tournament with pairings for each round drawn at random - there are no seeds, and the draw for each round is not made until after the scheduled dates for the previous round. The draw also determines which teams will play at home.
Each tie is played as a single leg. If a match is drawn, there is a replay, usually at the ground of the team who were away for the first game. Drawn replays are now settled with extra time and penalty shootouts, though until the 1990s further replays would be played until one team was victorious. Some ties took as many as six matches to settle; in their 1975 campaign, Fulham played a total of 12 games over six rounds, which remains the most games played by a team to reach a final. Replays were traditionally played three or four days after the original game, but from 1991–92 they were staged at least 10 days later on police advice. This led to penalty shoot-outs being introduced. Replays are no longer held for the semi-finals or final.
There are a total of 14 rounds in the competition—six qualifying rounds, followed by six further rounds, semi-finals, and the final. The competition begins in August with the Extra Preliminary Round, followed by the Preliminary Round and First Qualifying Round, which are contested by the lowest-ranked clubs. Clubs playing in the Conference North and Conference South are given exemption to the Second Qualifying Round, and Conference National teams are given exemption to the Fourth Qualifying Round. The 32 winners from that round join the 48 clubs from League One and League Two in the First Round (often called the First Round Proper). Finally, teams from the Premier League and Football League Championship enter at the Third Round Proper, at which point there are 64 teams remaining in the competition.

History of Football world cup.

The world's first international football match was a challenge match played in Glascow in 1872 between Scotland and England, with the first international tournament, the inaugural edition of the British home championship, taking place in 1884.At this stage the sport was rarely played outside the United kingdom. As football began to increase in popularity in other parts of the world at the turn of the century, it was held as a demonstration sport with no medals awarded at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics (however, the IOC has retrospectively upgraded their status to official events), and at the 1906 Intercalated Games.
After FIFA was founded in 1904, there was an attempt made by FIFA to arrange an international football tournament between nations outside of the Olympic framework in Switzerland in 1906. These were very early days for international football, and the official history of FIFA describes the competition as having been a failure.
At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, football became an official competition. Planned by The Football Association (FA), England's football governing body, the event was for amateur players only and was regarded suspiciously as a show rather than a competition. Great Britain (represented by the England national amateur football team) won the gold medals. They repeated the feat in 1912 in Stockholm, where the tournament was organized by the Swedish Football Association.
With the Olympic event continuing to be contested only between amateur teams, Sir Thomas Lipton organized the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy tournament in Turin in 1909. The Lipton tournament was a championship between individual clubs (not national teams) from different nations, each one of which represented an entire nation. The competition is sometimes described as The First World Cup, and featured the most prestigious professional club sides from Italy, Germany and Switzerland, but the FA of England refused to be associated with the competition and declined the offer to send a professional team. Lipton invited West Auckland, an amateur side from County Durham, to represent England instead. West Auckland won the tournament and returned in 1911 to successfully defend their title, and were given the trophy to keep forever, as per the rules of the competition.

The History of Champions league

Tournament was inaugurated in 1955, at the suggestion of the French sports journalist and editor of Gabriel Hanot, as a continental competition for winners of the European national football leagues, as the European Champion Clubs' Cup, abbreviated to European Cup.
The competition began as the 1955–56 using a two-leg knockout format where the teams would play two matches, one at home and one away, and the team with the highest overall score qualifying for the next round of the competition. Until 1992, entry was restricted to the teams that won their national league championships, plus the current European Cup holder. In the 1992–93 season, the format was changed to include a group stage and the tournament was renamed the UEFA Champions League. There have since been numerous changes to eligibility for the competition, the number of qualifying rounds and the group structure. In 1997–98, eligibility was expanded to include the runners-up from some countries according to UEFA’S coefficient ranking list. The qualification system has been restructured so that national champions from lower ranked countries have to take part in one or more qualifying rounds before the group stages, while runners-up from higher ranked countries enter in later rounds. Up to four clubs from the top-ranked countries are currently given entry to the competition.
Between 1960 and 2004, the winner of the tournament qualified for the now defunct Intercontinental Cup against the winner of the Copa libertadores of South America. Since then, the winner automatically qualifies for the FIFA organized Club World Cup with other winners of continental club championships.
Stages
The tournament consists of several stages and begins with three preliminary knockout qualifying rounds. Different teams start in different rounds, according to their position in domestic league and the UEFA coefficients of their league, while the sixteen top ranked teams spread across the biggest domestic leagues qualify directly. The current system was adopted in 2003.
A change of the format will be carried out from session 2009-10 onwards. The main focus of the changes was to enable champions coming from associations ranked 13 to 53 access to the main tournament more easily through a separate qualifying route, rather than going head-to-head with non-champions from associations ranked 1 to 12. Five teams will enter into the group stage from each new route.
22 teams will then directly qualify for the group stage, compared to only 16 teams in the old system. The additional 6 directly qualified teams are the champions of associations ranked 10 to 12, and the 3rd placed teams in associations ranked 1 to 3.

history of English Premier League

Origins
Despite significant European success during the 1970s, the 1980s had marked a low point for English football. Stadium were crumbling, supporters endured poor facilities, hooliganism was rife, and English clubs were banned from European competition following the events at Heysel in 1985. The Football League First Division, which had been the top level of English football since 1888, was well behind leagues such as Italy's serie Aand Spain's liga in attendances and revenues, and several top English players had moved abroad. However, by the turn of the 1990s the downward trend was starting to reverse; England had been successful in the1990 FIFA WORLD CUP, reaching the semi-finals.UEFA, European football's governing body, lifted the five-year ban on English clubs playing in European competitions in 1990 and the Taylor Report on stadium safety standards, which proposed expensive upgrades to create all-seater stadiums in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster, was published in January of that year.
Television money had also become much more important; the Football League received £6.3million for a two-year agreement in 1986, but when that deal was renewed in 1988, the price rose to £44m over four years. The 1988 negotiations were the first signs of a breakaway league; ten clubs threatened to leave and form a "super league", but were eventually persuaded to stay. As stadiums improved and match attendance and revenues rose, the country's top teams again considered leaving the Football League in order to capitalize on the growing influx of money being pumped into the sport.
Foundation
At the close of the 1991 season, a proposal for the establishment of a new league was tabled that would bring more money into the game overall. The Founder Members Agreement, signed on 17 July 1991 by the game's top-flight clubs, established the basic principles for setting up the FA Premier League. The newly formed top division would have commercial independence from the Football Association and the Football League, giving the FA Premier League license to negotiate its own broadcast and sponsorship agreements. The argument given at the time was that the extra income would allow English clubs to compete with teams across Europe.
